BAM!! Last week we held our very first training camp here in snowy Denver, Colorado. Athletes flew in from all over the US- Florida, Texas, DC, NYC, Cali, Arizona, and Utah and Pat even flew in from Shanghai. #andPat (he was the only dude - lucky man)! It was a packed three days full of swimming, running, eating, drinking, laughing, dancing, and a whole lot of drilling...
We spent three days together swimming at the DU pool and at Swim Labs. It was really great to get in 3.5 hours of long course pool time after each athlete had a chance to be assessed at SwimLabs with all 4 coaches on deck, plus Sarah Jarvis, our sponsored PRO for 2016.
Back on the pool deck we cycled through specific drills that we noticed each athlete needed, also writing up those drills for them to take home. Then we got into the thick of it with some main sets including all out 100s for time. It was a blast to see some athletes PRing those sets, even at altitude. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you are in a lane with supportive teammates!
We enjoyed our time running each day at fun locations like Wash Park and Cherry Creek State Park. The athletes especially loved the last day with treadmill intervals in the gym combined with strength training with Audra. That was a kicker! Hello IRONSTRONG!
We had talks on Training Peaks, data metrics, including a deep dive into how we train athletes at MAF and why. Audra did a great presentation on getting IronStrong with lots of exercises and lots of laughter.
We enjoyed lots of meals together, breakfasts, lunches, and dinner, with plenty of fun after dinner conversations and excursions. We may have gotten a little crazy the last night!!! Shhh!
Here at RTTC, we really enjoy getting to know our athletes inside and out. This camp left both the coaches and the athletes happy and motivated! We like to have fun and laugh, first and foremost, that's why we have Coach Audra - our official director of fun.
Melani, AKA #selfiestick, put together a video on camp, and she also introduced us to the PhotoCircle App (gamchanger). Click below and you will redirect to our Public Facebook page where the video is posted.
All in all I can't thank our athletes enough for trusting us with their vacation days. I'm so proud and impressed with how receptive you all were. We threw a lot of information at you. I'm also so glad that you all were able to cut loose, drop the Type A for a few days, and roll with the fun!
